Aistė Mickonytė on Women‘s Rights in the Frame of EU Law and the Council of Europe

This year Austria celebrates a milestone in the field of women's rights: its 40th anniversary as member of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). To mark this occasion, Prof. Anita Ziegerhofer (Institute of the Foundations of Law) has organized a lecture series at URANIA Graz.

On the 2nd of February, as part of this event, Dr. Aistė Mickonytė held a presentation on "Women's Rights in Europe. The EU, the Council of Europe and the Istanbul Convention". She discussed the diverse set of instruments of the EU as well as the Council of Europe, with a focus on the prohibition of discrimination under EU law. Likewise, she highlighted the core aspects of the European Social Charter (ESC) as well as the Istanbul Convention. In doing so, Aistė Mickonytė addressed the capacity of EU law and the ECHR to establish subjective rights of individuals, as well as the obligations of States underlying the ESC and the Istanbul Convention.
