75th International Astronautical Congress

Co-Chairs History of Astronautics

The 75th International Astronautical Congress (IAC), from 14 to 18 October 2024, saw the congregation in Milan of over 10000 experts from industry, space agencies and academia.

The 75th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) brought together around 11000 experts from industry, research and the institutions and placed Milan at the heart of the international debate on the use of Space to support sustainability. The congress dealt with the full range of space reseacrh from astrophysics and aerospace engineering to space law and policy, space history as well as space and society.

Under the motto “Responsible Space for Sustainability”, the IAC 2024 had the intention to highlight the importance of Space as an environment that must be kept secure and open to exploration, peaceful use and international co-operation by present and future generations in the interests of the planet and all nations, regardless of their level of development and without discrimination of any kind.

The Department of Global Governace's Hannes Mayer co-chaired several sessions of the IAA History of Astronautics Symposium and presented a paper on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Convention on Registration of Objects Launched into Outer Space.
