The Department of Global Governance at the Institute of the Foundations of Law cordially invites you to join the public online lecture and discussion on
Conservatism in Russian Law: In Defiance of Liberal Values?
by Professor Mikhail Antonov
(Land Steiermark Fellow at the University of Graz/Higher School of Economics St. Petersburg)
Introduction and Welcome by Ass.-Prof. Dr. Benedikt Harzl
There are many indications that one of the strategic objectives of Russian politics today is to undermine key Western liberal values such as individual freedom, democracy or the rule of law. Paradoxically, these liberal values still formally constitute the basic principles of Russian law. This predictably creates tensions between what is written in the Constitution and how it is interpreted and applied in practice. This myriad of tensions, which Professor Antonov has thoroughly investigated in his monograph Formalism, Decisionism and Conservatism in Russian Law (Brill Nijhoff, 2021) will be problematized and discussed in this lecture.
Aufgrund der angespannten Situation rund um Covid-19 wird die Global Governance Lecture „Conservatism in Russian Law“ mit Prof. Mikhail Antonov (siehe Einladung unten) im Online-Format abgehalten werden.
